Welcome to Club for 1: an anonymous, participatory telephone hotline dedicated to the exercising and expansion of the human voice and body led by artist Becca Kauffman.

Drawing from the foundational teachings of composer Kay Gardner, we will identify the way different combinations of vowels and consonants produce resonance and vibration throughout the body. We’ll pay special attention to our breath, the soft palate, placement of the tongue, and the power of the hum.

We’ll put our newfound awareness into a collectively read aloud text, building from a round robin recitation into musicalized, embodied interpretations inspired by an ambient soundtrack.

A complimentary music mix will be gifted to all participants.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Becca Kauffman is a New York City-based performance and voice over artist with an interactive, genre-fluid approach to their multidisciplinary solo work. Their uniquely self-guided career through art, music, theater, comedy, voice acting, DJing, and dance has led them to the stages of MoMA PS1 and Bowery Ballroom, the screens of CBS News and Queens Public Television, and the streets of Times Square and Hollywood. Their work as a professional voice over artist can be heard in elevators, antidepressant commercials, and chocolate advertisements across the airwaves. Becca is currently an MFA candidate in Art and Social Practice at Portland State University, where they are working to incorporate socially engaged art strategies into their performance work.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Ticket holders may request to cancel reservations for a full refund up to 48 hours before the start of the event. Cancellation requests made within 48 hours of the start of the event or after it has started will not be honored. Reservations can be transferred to someone else anytime before the start of a class.​
