Brooklyn, New York
$11.90 - $22.46 (includes all fees)

Born On A Move: A short film screening and one man performance show about Mike Africa Jr —the man who was born in prison.

In 1978, the PhillyPD conducted a military-style siege of a house in Philadelphia and arrested nine members of MOVE. They were sentenced to 30 to 100 years in prison. One of them was pregnant and secretly gave birth to Mike Africa Jr in a prison cell. Born On A Move is a short film screening and one man show about Mike Africa Jr—from his experience in an abusive orphanage to his remembrance of the bombing in 1985 of the MOVE house on Osage Ave, which killed 11 member of his family to his quest to free his family. MOVE was and is a militant Philadelphia-based group committed to a radical vision of cooperative, healthy and environmentally conscious living. Its members took the surname Africa, reasoning that it was the “original homeland of all mankind.”
