Experimental Cyanotype Workshop

Brooklyn, New York
$27.74 (includes all fees)

Ever wanted to play with a still from a video you like straight onto paper? Or experiment with cyanotype to create beautiful drawings out of silhouettes, digital imagery, and light?

Come to wavefield where we’ll learn the basics of cyanotype printing as well as experimental techniques to create multiple prints from your favorite video media. We’ll briefly go over the theory and history of cyanotypes before jumping straight into playing with projectors, crystals, and objects to create images using light and shadow.

We’ll also pick up more traditional techniques such as contact printing, emulsion application, and different treatments for canvas, cloth, and glass. You can print t-shirts, postcards, zines, and of course, artwork using these methods. These techniques are great on their own or can be stacked with other artmaking techniques to produce the super collage of your dreams.

Although your print will initially come out a brilliant deep blue, we’ll go over ways of chromatically modifying your print with household materials to achieve a desired effect. By no means is this a 1:1 recreation, but an re-presentation of your image(s) and material of choice.

All paper materials will be provided including paper, aluminum plates, canvas, blank t-shirts, cyanotype chemistry, bottles, brushes, UV exposure, gels, lights, printing glass, and modified projectors, as well as an array of objects for use.
