New Tech, Same Struggle: Internet Safety For Organizers

$11.90 - $106.91 (includes all fees)

Please join Mayday Space in a workshop and skill-share exploring ideas around safer internet practices for community organizers. How can we protect each other while helping each other?

This workshop will be led by a Mayday volunteer who will share some tips on how to promote safer use of communication and file-sharing platforms while examining our willingness to make deeper changes in our daily lives that will align with our vision for the role technology will play in our activism.

What we will explore:
• How does encryption work? — We’ll visualize & discuss how encryption works, how it helps us, its limitations, and why we don’t need to go full Mr. Robot to use it
• Classified — We’ll discuss best practices for handling sensitive info and create a framework for keeping ourselves and each other safer online and on the streets
• Let’s get FLOSSy — We’ll discuss ethical and safer alternatives to the "big box stores" of the internet like Google, Apple, and Meta
• Settings and Q&A — We’ll take some time to change settings and answer questions. Remember, we’re learning together and none of us can be an expert in this ever-changing realm!
