Part of the weekly Milk Press Virtual Workshop series, produced by the Poetry Society of New York. With guest instructor Raisa Tolchinsky Looking to Rilke, Mirabai, Jane Hirshfield, Ilya Kaminski, Kaveh Akbar, and others— we will wonder together over a poetics of devotion (to the self, to the Beloved, to beyond). Looking to the root of ‘devotion,’ we will ask, what, in our lives, are we making a vow or promise to? How can a writing practice help us to uncover our commitments? How can poetry provide a way for us to be in conversation with the sacred? How can we recognize our devotions to the mundane and the difficult? In this generative workshop, we will consider writing an act of devotion. Participants will come away with several beginnings to poems, as well as three new "commitments" to their practice. **This virtual workshop will be held over Zoom. You should receive a link in your confirmation email.**
