Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series. With poet Sasha Banks!Everything begins in darkness from the start of our known galaxy, to each day, to our births. There are generative properties in the womb of The Darkness that both shrouds and makes us. There is nothing to fear in The Darkness; it is not Dark, not evil or malicious. We will reach into The Darkness and employ its elements of rebirth, imagination, and experimentation, as we examine and challenge our fear, our uncertainty, and our undoing. We’ll look at texts from Joy Harjo, Vi Khi Nao, Aracelis Girmay, Patricia Smith, and others.About the Instructor: Sasha Banks is a Pushcart nominated poet and filmmaker whose work has been published or is forthcoming in THE ATLANTIC, VANITY FAIR, PBS NEWSHOUR, and others.
