Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series. With poet Dorothy Chan! The great poet and drag artist, Wo Chan cites Charles Wright in describing how each writer has about “three to four ‘flood subjects’ — subjects the writer returns to for all their life.” My four flood subjects include food, sex, fantasy, and pleasure. I believe in the seduction of the line, within the reciprocal relationship between speaker (and thus poet) and reader. I live for sensual lines that seduce the reader onto the page. But how exactly do we achieve true seduction within the lyric? And how can we bring in food to spice up / sex up our poetry? In this generative workshop we will look at works by Lyrae Van Clief-Stefanon, Alberto Ríos, Steven Espada Dawson, Ina Cariño, Chen Chen, Joshua Nguyen, Chelsey Minnis, and Imani Davis. Attendees will receive both form-based and free verse writing prompts.
