Join the Mayday Collective, the Central Brooklyn Food Coop, Farm School NYC, and the BYP 100 NYC chapter for an afternoon of storytelling and breaking bread among Black farmers and farmers of color from New York as we celebrate award-winning author, farmer, and educator, Leah Penniman’s new book, Farming While Black.

Farming holds more transformational power than just growing food. As Leah writes, “Stewarding our own land, growing our own food, educating our own youth, participating in our own healthcare and justice systems this is the source of real power and dignity.”

In a city where access to land is nearly impossible to obtain, come hear from and connect with local farmers, land stewards, food educators, and organizers in NYC who are working towards food sovereignty and a more just food system.

We are extending a special invitation to local leaders in our local food movement. We have much respect for your contributions to building healthy and sustainable communities here in Brooklyn and NYC. Please join us as a special guest.

A team of community chefs will be making a home cooked meal with locally sourced ingredients. Please RSVP by January 25th so we can account for you! All proceeds will go towards food and labor so please donate if you can.

Non-black, non-POC identified folks are welcome to attend. Please consider making a donation of $10-20 in support of event costs.

There is a suggested donation of $5, no one turned away at the door.
