Fire Over Heaven continues with our second installment of the season with downtown guitar legend Loren Connors and piano and cello duo Salenta & Topu. Septuagenarian Loren Connors has cut a iconoclastic path through this city's underground history with an approach to guitar that has encompassed reimaginings of the delta blues, emotive folk songwriting, and spacious, reverb-drenched improvisations for electric guitar. He has also collaborated with fellow travelers like Keiji Haino, Daniel Carter, Jim O'Rourke, Alan Licht and Suzanne Langille to name a few. He'll be playing a special solo electric set at Fire Over Heaven. Salenta + Topu on the other hand, are a duo at the beginning of their musical path. Their debut Moon Set, Moon Rise is an astonishingly lyrical set of improvisations that marries pianist Salenta's bright single note lines and shimmering keyboard flurries with Topu's rhythmic cello riffs and cycling melodies. It's a kind of intuitive minimalism that doesn't shy away from melody, with an emotional timbre as elusive as it is timeless.
