FOH: Luisa Muhr / Wendy Eisenberg Duo and Darius VanSluytman

Queens, New York
$11.90 - $17.18 (includes all fees)

Fire Over Heaven returns, in this new Gregorian calendar year 2020, with a double bill featuring Luisa Muhr / Wendy Eisenberg Duo and Darius VanSluytman...Multi-disciplinary artist Luisa Muhr and guitar phenom Wendy Eisenberg have been honing their ongoing collaboration over the past year or two thru live performances and residencies which highlight the terse interplay between Muhr's embodied physical/vocal presence and Eisenberg's crystalline fretboard workouts. Their improvisational chemistry suggests a kinship with the famous duets of Derek Bailey and Min Tanaka or a species of distilled Judson Church-era happening, with Eisenberg's static stage presence and multi-directional guitar playing being the perfect foil for Muhr's rangy space traversing calisthenics. Muhr's activities include projects spanning theater, dance, opera and improvisation, as well as organizing the wonderful Women Between Arts concert series at the New School. Eisenberg has made it clear that she is a guitarist to watch, beginning with her work in Boston noise-rock outfit Birthing Hips, and continuing thru solo outings full of art songs or acoustic improvisations, or her new trio with Ches Smith and Trevor Dunn as rhythm section...Vocalist, poet, actor Darius VanSluytman is best known for his arresting vocals for early 00's Afropunk crew No Surrender, but he turns up in many odd corners of the pop, experimental and poetics worlds as well. Some of you may have caught him as part of Jessica Kinney's vocal ensemble at James Cohan Gallery last September, his guttural explosions of distressed word/sound made him hard to miss and prompted me to ask him to play Fire Over Heaven on the spot!...Lots more great music to come in 2020.
