PSNY Virtual Workshop: Sound in Poetry

Free - $50.00

Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series. With poet Kennedy Garza Brown! It's often forgotten that Poetry is as much craft and technique as it is an art. Mary Oliver purports the intentionality poetry, all the down to the syllables. This generative workshop takes us into the nitty gritty of poetry, and focuses specifically on sounds, exploring the ways sound is used to transcend words off a page into our ears, even if no one is saying them aloud, or how to even convey sound on the page. We will be reading Langston Hughes, Ben Lerner, amongst others to see this in action. There will be exercises in onomatopoeia and exploring the intersection of sound and other senses to generate sonorous and serpaphic words. About the Instructor: KENNEDY GARZA BROWN has been published in Impostor Lit, Livinia Press, and others. Kennedy received their BFA in creative writing at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, and relentlessly pursues the expansion of their craft. Their work focuses on capturing the minute experiences that have rustled their soul. Born and raised in Texas, Kennedy is currently based out of New York City. They’ve workshopped with Catapult and the Poetry Barn. Currently, they are writing their first chapbook, Polaroids. * *This workshop will take place on Zoom.**
