Capturing the Soundscape
Intro to Creative Field Recording
for women-identifying and non-binary artists
Learn how to listen to, capture and interpret your sonic environment in this workshop led by sound and media artist Jenn Grossman. The class will provide an introduction to theories of sound studies, acoustic ecology, musique concrète and psychogeography, as well as a range of recording techniques. Working in groups, participants will create their own sound collages by recording site-specific sounds and using audio editing software.
Newcomers to sound and music technology are welcome!
“Today all sounds belong to a continuous field of possibilities lying within the comprehensive dominion of music. Behold the new orchestra: the sonic universe! And the musicians: anyone and anything that sounds!” -R. Murray Schafer
