Material Matters: Creative Mining Within (The) Archives

Brooklyn, New York
$17.19 - $54.09 (includes all fees)
Up to $14.81 for members

Material Matters is a speaker series bringing together artists and designers who engage the archive as a site of inquiry, friction, and transformation. Hosted by Secret Riso Club and Intro to Graphic Design, an Undergraduate course at Yale School of Art lead by Zoë Pulley, each session asks: what does it look like to transform the archive — not just use it?

Panel:
Neta Bomani is a zine maker and publisher. She is the co-director, alongside Mariame Kaba, of Sojourners for Justice Press—the abolitionist feminist micro press behind the Black Zine Fair. Her practice empowers people to critically engage with technology, embody Black feminist and DIY philosophies, and co-create liberatory systems.
Nat Pyper is an alphabet artist. Their practice of fonts, wearables, video, and performance extends from ongoing research on queer publishing histories.
Be Oakley is an artist, writer, and publisher based in Ridgewood, Queens. In 2015 they started GenderFail, a publishing outlet that seeks to instigate work that expands queer subjectivity.
