October 31 10:00 - 12:00, $5 per person or $15 per family, All ages
Why is it that almost everyone goes through a phase of being both scared and infatuated with scary stories? It is because these stories help us to develop the emotional skills to deal with life’s real scary moments. Fox will begin with a short set of scary stories from around the world drawing from the writings of Mark Twain, Shakespeare and Chaucer. He will then teach everyone a simple ‘jump tale’ and in so doing teach the elements of performing any scary story. Next, he will lead a participatory conversation on why these stories are important to our emotional development and how we can face our fears through our fictional writing. Everyone will outline a story, adding the ingredients for an age appropriate spooky moment. (Though this program is offered on All Saints Eve, we ask that participants do not dress up for the workshop.)
