We invite you to the first Bob & Teresa's 16mm film screening of 2025!
This month's curated set is made up of just four films. Each is about 25 minutes long and varied in style and technique.
Our first selection is Universe, a b/w film made in 1960. It uses a combination of special effects, animation and elaborate handmade models to illustrate what could not be seen by telescopes at that time. Amazing soundtrack and narration as well.
Next we have Climb, a suspenseful documentary of two friends ascending a rock face in Yosemite in 1975. These groovy, long-haired climbers ruminate on what motivates them to test their personal limits and to rely on each other. Amazing cinematography by an unseen third climber.
In 3rd position is Reflections on Time, a classroom film made by Encyclopedia Britannica in 1969. It's wonderful to imagine 10 year olds watching this intense, abstract mind-blower. Great narration. Amazing avant garde soundtrack. This film has faded to very red, but is still worth the watch.
Lastly, Frog and Toad are Friends. This lovely stop-motion film is borrowed from the Pratt library. Made in 1985, it depicts many of the strange and beautiful stories from the books by Arnold Lobel written a decade earlier. Director John Matthew's fluid animation and expressive voice-over will give you a simple and peaceful respite to the crazy outside.
We always add surprise short bits- trailers, ads, and odd film fragments before and between the main titles. Good, good fun.
