Tailing Dams is an Austin-based musical joint by multimedia artists and musicians, Lauren Gurgiolo and Dávid Lovas. The two previously collaborated on several interactive and experimental events featuring Gurgiolo's project, The Dialtones, with Lovas contributing as a visual artist and documentarian. Tailing Dams is their first project showcasing both artists as musical performers.
The group started as a spontaneous jam session that concluded with seven original songs in a matter of hours. The music is repetitive and glitchy, with multi-layered, psychedelic guitars, and vocals and lyrics drawing inspiration from post-punk and indietronica.
This live performance is also accompanied by video loops of “Clerical Trees” by Rebecca Adler and Dávid Lovas. Adler and Lovas have previously collaborated on Adler’s award-winning documentary “Trans Youth”, with Lovas as motion designer and additional cinematographer.
Tailing Dams’ Live Debut is a 40-minute performance channeling anxiety, alienation, and frustration in an atomized 21st-century society, combining therapeutic self-expression and performative art.
