April 21st marks part 2 of this month's Fire Over Heaven double feature, with saxophonist Sam Weinberg bringing a trio with FOH perennials Samara Lubelski and Barry Weisblat, and Emil Bognar-Nasdor and Alex Zhang Hungtai appearing with their drums and electronics duo, In:voice. Sam Weinberg is a powerful young saxophonist whose formidable chops and deep sensitivity to sound have made him equally at home in avant-jazz projects and outré settings, like this trio with underground stalwarts Samara Lubelski and Barry Weisblat. Lubelski is well known for her extended violin work with fellow drone travelers Bill Nace and Marcia Bassett, as well as a body of song based records going back to the late 90s collective, Tower Recordings. Weisblat's homemade electronics have encompassed everything from improvised trios like this one to 4 channel sound pieces but you can also find him playing cowbell and maraca in the 75 Dollar Bill Little Big Band... Since Alex Zhang Hungtai hung up the Dirty Beaches name several years ago, he's focused increasingly on improvisation heavy projects with players from Portugal, Taiwan and seemingly everywhere in between. In:voice is a percussion and electronics project with drummer Emil Bognar-Nasdor.
