Our last femme revenge film of the series is happening next Monday, July 10th! We will showcase "Enough" starring Jennifer Lopez. This film is not known for being a cinematic masterpiece but lives as a cult classic for many people who love to see the protagonist embody strength and growth.
TW: this film has scenes of domestic violence towards the protagonist.
We will be starting out the night with a self defense workshop from Malikah! Malikah is a collective of trainers, organizers and facilitators dedicated to building power for ourselves and our communities through (1) self-defense (2) healing justice (3) organizing (4) financial literacy.
The organization was founded in post 9/11 NYC in response to the gender and hate based violence being faced by Muslim women in Queens.
Self defense philosophy: With every self defense technique we deconstruct the notion that our bodies are not our own. With every movement we begin a healing process with our bodies, one where we finally have full control over our security and space. We recognize that everyone comes into our classes with varying experiences and expressions of gender. We affirm the diversity of our community and recognize that we are all on unique journeys. For some of us, self-defense may be a tool for healing and connection with our source of power and body. For others, we are motivated to be trained in self defense because it will ultimately be a tool for self preservation.
No one will be turned away for lack of funds- all proceeds go to Malikah.
This event is only open to women, femmes, nonbinary and trans folks**
