Found @ Sea

$6.63 - $33.01 (includes all fees)

Join us for this celebration of objects lost and found! Invoking the impermanence of memory and engaging the cycles of birth and loss that characterize New York’s physical as well as cultural landscapes, Found@Sea combines storytelling, ephemeral found object sculpture, collaborative art making and sustainability practices at at TBD location at Ft Tilden Beach this August.

The project solicits six creators to submit stories about beloved lost objects, and to construct natural found object sculptures dedicated to these items during this one-day event. Join us to view the sculptures and their stories, and watch them wash away with the tide. Participate in a collaborative storytelling event to weave a tale about found objects washed up at sea (collected earlier in a beach cleanup mission one week prior) with the imagination of the collective led by a professional storyteller.

While you are welcome to come hang with us on the beach throughout the day, this event will officially begin at 5p. High tide is at 7:20p and we expect all sculptures to be washed away by 8p.

We have added tickets for the Damon Shuttle. If you don't already know Damon, he is the most reliable stalwart of the DIY scene and we appreciate him so.

He will drive you to and from this event if you please. Tickets are available for two shuttles:

1p Bushwick departure
830p Beach departure

OR

4p Bushwick departure
10p Beach Departure

Public transit rules apply; masks are required

Would you like to participate as an artist?

We invite you to create a natural found object sandcastle/sculpture (limited to ONLY items that belong in the ocean: aka: sand, rocks, sea grass, shells: things found at and returned to the ocean) dedicated to a beloved lost object. Was it your ring, an old band t-shirt, a letter? Design a natural found object sculpture as a homage to that lost object at low tide, and then at high tide, watch it wash away to the sea.

You can work with a team, or on your own to construct this sandcastle. We will select ten projects to receive a $150 stipend for your time, effort, and creativity. Note: this is an all-day event...we will expect selected projects to arrive at 1:30pm to build your sandcastle/sculpture and then stay for the duration of the event.

If you do not wish to fill out an application or you have missed the deadline, please contact us at shadowtrafficproductions@gmail.com and let us know if you would like to contribute in some way. Even though we cannot offer you a stipend, we would still welcome your artistic contribution to the event.
