Personal Sites of Distraction

$6.63 - $12.96 (includes all fees)

*August 8, 15, 22* 12:30-2 pm EDT
What happens when we stop and pay attention in an environment that is designed to distract us? As Artists, how do you engage with a public place like Instagram while navigating its extractive realities? In this workshop, participants will learn how to situate Instagram within their creative practice beyond 'Strategy'. We will look at Facebook's Instagram app less as a 'marketing tool' and more as an ecosystem akin to a 'town square' or a 'street'. Through reflective and documentary exercises, participants will investigate their personal relationship with the platform, discover patterns of interaction and unpack shared ethical concerns. Participants will develop their own methodologies for Refusal (and Attention).

In this workshop, we will learn to pay close attention to digital public places such as Instagram. We will learn to identify UX cues and develop discerning skills to navigate such hyper-personalised personal environments. Participants will be invited to create their own methodologies for Refusal and Attention.
