At the same time, form is tricky because it can feel limiting, unnatural, or even forced to write in a structure that someone else created, often centuries ago. Like poetry, Tarot can be a helpful tool for finding order in the chaos of one’s thoughts. Tarot works in this way because of the archetypes, elements, and frameworks built into the cards themselves, as well as the conventions of “reading” Tarot. In this workshop, we will look at the formal structures involved in the practices of reading Tarot and writing poems, offering tools for imagining new archetypes, asking better questions of ourselves, developing personalized spreads, translating spreads into poetry, and inventing new poetic forms that feel personal, natural, and self-inspired. For the best possible experience of this workshop, participants should bring their own tarot deck, a notebook, and something to write with!
