Build yourself a unique homepage on the internet that no billionaire can take away from you! In an age where most websites are both boring to look at, and unnecessarily complex under the hood, we’ll be reclaiming the fun and simplicity of the early web by creating websites the old-fashioned way: with plain HTML and CSS.
In this weekend intensive workshop led by Paloma Kop, we will learn how to create simple, custom websites from scratch by writing HTML code. We will learn to write CSS to style our webpages. This is an introductory course for beginners, or anyone wishing to refresh their skills. By the end of the second day, everyone will have created their own site, and have the skills and resources to continue building on their own.
We will fully immerse ourselves in coding for the web from 11am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, March 8th & 9th. There will be a short break for lunch at 12:30. Please plan to arrive on time and participate for the full duration of the meetings.
We’ll each create a site during the first session, and then continue to expand and customize it, with instructional periods as well as free work time and opportunities for Q&A. It’s great to come to this class with a vague idea for your site — or just have fun with it and see what happens 🙂
MATERIALS
All participants must bring a laptop with a web browser installed. We will be using the Neocities platform, which offers a web-based code editor; experienced coders are welcome to use their preferred editing tools.
