Flux Factory alumni Hana Mire, in collaboration with fellow  Somali filmmaker Samia Osman, will premiere an experimental video alongside a series of photographs. Some of the images were shown in Mogadishu at the first photography exhibition held in the city in over 30 years.

Haa Guumoben Waaliga welcomes visitors into the lives of the people of Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia, before and after the civil war.

We are the Somali diaspora and the generation that was born after the civil war in 1990. Young artists have kept Somalia alive through classical theater, Music, poetry, and other creative traditions. We seek to bring to life the magical memories of our parents, as they remember home as the most beautiful place in the world. 

This is a love letter to Mogadishu and to our people who were stripped of their humanity. The soul of this exhibition honors our beauty, strength, and joy. We use original images and mix them with archival and found images from YouTube and those given to us by our friends and family.

This exhibition shows the reality of Somalis both back home and in the diaspora. Despite the instability, we remain hopeful and joyful.
