What is a Posada Navideña?
A posada navideña is a traditional Mexican Christmas celebration that re-enacts Mary and Joseph’s search for lodging before the birth of Jesus. It typically takes place during the nine days leading up to Christmas (December 16–24).
Participants form a procession, often holding candles and singing traditional songs, as they move from house to house or room to room, symbolizing Mary and Joseph’s journey. The event concludes when they are finally “given shelter,” and the festivities begin.
The celebration includes breaking a star-shaped piñata, eating traditional foods and drinking ponche (a warm fruit punch), and enjoying music and fellowship. It’s a festive occasion that brings communities together.
The piñata consists of seven peaks that symbolize the seven deadly sins of humanity. You will also see some Christmas piñatas with five peaks which represent the Star of Bethlehem. It is usually filled with sweets, seasonal fruits, and surprises for children.
The act of breaking the piñata has meaning, too: It's to break with the deadly sins in order to be able to be purified and all the treats that come out once the piñata is broken reflect generosity.

Jenny Arredondo is a Product Designer, Deep Techno and Ambient DJ/Producer, event specialist and podcast founder. She was born and raised in Mexico City watching her grandmother and family cooking some of the most amazing traditional Mexican food. This inspired her to start her gastronomy journey around the world and turned her into a total foodie and a great cook.
From all those recipes that got passed along to her there was one that stood out, a truly addictive salsa that nobody could resist. By making this recipe her own, this family recipe got improved and it has reached out a new quality level by using organic ingredients and a mix of special salts created by chef Nathan Blake.
This salsa will be the star of this event and we can't wait for you to try it!
Nathan Blake is a visionary artist, musician, innovator and professional chef with over two decades of experience. He studied Culinary Arts at Le Cordon Bleu and since then he has been delighting palates with authenticity and excellence working as a private chef and popular restaurants in cities like Chicago and Los Angeles before moving to New York 2 years ago.
Tile Table a local supper club founded by Simone Ver Eecke and Isabel Kagan began in January of 2018 as an idea to creatively bring friends together to eat dinner around a 14 seat tile table. The mission is a curate experimental and immersive dining experiences that invite guests to share the joy of cooking in a whimsical, intimate and creatively engaging setting. The duo will be hosting the event at their event loft in Bushwick, Brooklyn as well as whipping us a Dulce de Calabaza inspired dessert to conclude the party!
