NYC Public Schools and the Fight for Black Liberation

Free - $22.46 (includes all fees)

Do you know how the NYC public school system is structured? Did you know that NYC public schools are some of the most segregated in the country? Without school boards, how do parents and other community members exercise democracy over education ? Is it under the Mayor or what? Where does the teachers’ union fit in? How are educators fighting for a better, more activist, union?

Please join Mayday Space and the AfroSocialist Caucus of NYC Democratic Socialists of America for a night of crucial political and historical education. As the reopening date gets closer, and a new cycle of electoral politics around the other corner, its past time to have this important conversation. We are honored to host a public school teacher and union organizer from the MORE Caucus of the UFT, Ronnie Almonte.

The Mayday and DSA community believe in a robust political education that puts the narratives of people who are typically suppressed, to the forefront. We won’t be able to create a better Black future, if we don’t get honest about the history.
