Improvising Orchestra workshop, with Huda Asfour.
This series of three workshops is an introduction to Conducted Improvisation and to launch an “Electroacoustic Multidisciplinary Improv Community Orchestra in Brooklyn” (MDICOB).
Time: 7:00pm -9:00 pm
No fee, but please reserve your place
In this workshop, Huda works with the participants on the essential skills for individual and group improvisation, using a series of exercises designed to create strong group dynamics, deepen listening capabilities, and broaden your imagination. Huda uses active learning methods to cover topics related to structure, modality, rhythms, rhythmicity and their relation to language. Additionally, participants will learn to use the open source protocol for large group collective improvisation developed by OEOAS in Naples, Italy.
This workshop is a continuation of a practice Huda has started in Cairo and in Naples. In this Brooklyn iteration, we hope to attract not only musicians but artists from across the spectrum who enjoy improvising and are curious about being part of this experience.
Huda practices conducted improvisation - a space between composition and improvisation. The practices presented in this workshop are based on the open curriculum developed with the OEOAS in Naples, and Butch Morris’ Conduction methods.
Who should join:
All musicians from any background and levels with interest in improvisation.
Music lovers interested in learning how to conduct large ensembles.
Musicians looking to improve their listening and improvisational skills.
