What is risograph printing, and how does it work? In this hands-on workshop for beginners and those looking to refresh their skills, we’ll break down the basics of riso—an affordable, eco-friendly print method known for its bold colors, layered textures, and DIY possibilities. Participants will learn how to prep files, understand layering, and operate a risograph machine. Together, we’ll walk through the full process and each participant will create a single-sheet, two-color zine to take home.
This workshop is for any Black, Indigenous, and/or person of color who’s ever heard about or looked at a risograph print and thought: “That looks and sounds cool, but I don’t know if it’s for me.” We’re here to show you that it is. This is a safe space for experimentation, learning by doing, and reclaiming printmaking as a tool for self-expression and community memory.
The fair is organized by Sojourners for Justice Press and Midnight Care Collective. We’re committed to creating a free platform for Black zine makers who otherwise wouldn’t have access to zine/art/book fairs and festivals. Thank you for supporting us!
