Independent Theatre Night - Hidden City DIY Festival

$11.90 (includes all fees)

As part of the Hidden City DIY Festival, we will be hosting a night of independent theater by local theater artists, writers and composers. We will be showcasing three new works, each in a different stage of development, in three distinct styles. Cuz its... stagecraft!

Humanize.Me is one woman show by Madge Mayer exploring her relationship with her cellphone. Madge attempts to break up with her phone, and has to deal with the potential fallout of living her life without it. This comedy drama challenges us to be honest with ourselves about our own dependence, addiction, and cognitive dissonance. What does it mean to be human in the digital age? Madge will be playing the part of her phone.

A Siren’s Prayer, a musical by Kim Macharia, follows three sirens who have spent generations luring sailors to their deaths, their haunting harmonies carrying a legacy of betrayal and survival. But when one sailor escapes, everything changes. One siren—curious, soulful, and free from bitterness—falls in love with the survivor. As the story unfolds, she uncovers the history behind her community’s vengeance and sets out to heal her people rather than continue the cycle of punishment.

Lovesick by Amelia Munson is a stripped-down ukulele musical about queer heartbreak, healing, and the mess in between. Intimate, raw, and comedic, Lovesick plucks heartstrings with a tender look at queer longing, romantic misfires, and the ache of trying to connect.

The evening will be hosted at The Maker's Space, an evolving grassroots ensemble of emerging artists -predominantly queer people of color- showcasing new, original and classical works of theater.

Creative direction for the evening by Elisa Blynn. She is a multidisciplinary performing artist and transformational creative director. Arriving in NYC in 1996, she found her niche in independent theater and film, as well as solo performance. Since 2002, her Life Art curriculum has expanded to include facilitating ensemble transformative arts practices into devised ritual theater experiences. Elisa Blynn is honored to be directing Madge in developing Humanize.Me
