FIRE OVER HEAVEN 11/21: PEQUEÑA FAMILIA & ZARABANDA VARIATIONS

Queens, New York
$17.18 (includes all fees)

1st Set: Pequeña Familia
San Diego-based Mexican flutist/composer Wilfrido Terrazas presents Pequeña Familia, a new composition performed by clarinetist Madison Greenstone and cellist Rocío Díaz de Cossío, featuring the composer as a narrator. Pequeña Familia is the second part of Terrazas' Trilogía del Dolor (Trilogý of Pain), a collection of works that investigates the deep meaning and nature of human pain through poetry and improvisational musical structures. Pequeña Familia features poetic texts written by the composer and reflects upon grief, loss, and the complexities of being Mexican.

2nd Set: Zarabanda Variations
Conceived by performer, composer, and American Modern Opera Company (AMOC*) member Keir GoGwilt, Zarabanda Variations brings together a group of visionary composers, improvisers, and performers, inspired by musical histories of New Spain, or present-day Mexico and the United States. Over the course of the performance, the familiar tonalities and harmonies of early Baroque music are warped into contemporary and futuristic soundscapes. In its trio iteration, Zarabanda Variations features Keir GoGwilt on violin, Wilfrido Terrazas on flutes, and Alec Goldfarb on guitar.
