Taught by Ares Maia
Turning the Unseen into Zines will be a workshop series where we'll unpack the mysteries of our dreams, déjà vus, and symbols while learning the art and craft of zine making. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll dive into the basics: materials, design, and storytelling, all while practicing creative exercises to bring your subconscious to life on paper. Together, we’ll share stories, reflect on identity, and turn the intangible into something wonderful and meaningful to share.
What influences us when we are on auto-pilot? What can we learn from our quick decisions? Why did we choose that color? What is a dream you’ve had that you will never forget? Were you flying or watching a tsunami, like me? Can you find inspiration there? Through creative exercises, prompts, and discussions you will be guided to not look outwards for inspiration, but within.
This workshop is open to all, but will particularly resonate with individuals interested in communication design, visual art, and self-publishing practices. You’ll need a computer with the following programs downloaded: acrobat, indesign, and photoshop or illustrator.
