This workshop invites participants to learn about the rich tapestry of Black independent publishers in Detroit, MI. From Broadside to Lotus Press, we will remember the contributions Black literary arts figures such as Dudley Randall and Naomi L. Madgett have made towards the Black Arts Movement, and liberatory movements of the now. Through this acknowledgement, participants will explore the responsibility we have towards preserving such legacies as we shape the present and future of the Black imaginary.
The fair is organized by Sojourners for Justice Press and Midnight Care Collective. We’re committed to creating a free platform for Black zine makers who otherwise wouldn’t have access to zine/art/book fairs and festivals. Thank you for supporting us!
