Join us for our fifth edition of the Gutterblood Talk Show.
For this round, we're taking on the question of art and education in Austin with Mikaela Andres, Programs Director of MINDPOP in affiliation the Creative Learning Initiative in the Independent Austin School District, Sarah Chestnut, Senior Manager of Learning and Interpretation at the Contemporary Ausin, overseeing all K-12 and educator programs, including "Seeing Special Things", and Yuliya Lanina, artist, Assistant Professor of Practice, Arts and Entertainment Technologies at UT and past teacher of Art Appreciation at St. Edwards University.
Moderated by Sono Osato, who grew up in a pro-arts in education household in the 1960's, attended the Bemis Art School for Children from age 5-18 as a result and has a teaching history that includes the San Francisco Art Institute, The Kansas City Art Institute, and Anderson Ranch, among others.
Inspiration for this edition came from an exchange between Yuliya and Chris Tomlinson during a past talk show about collecting art in in Austin. Yuliya brought up that when teaching an art appreciation class at St. Edwards, prior to her curricular requirement, none of her students visited galleries and museums. Chris' response was that generally speaking, kids aren't raised in Texas to value and appreciate art the way they are on the coasts and in Europe. Welp, all three of our guests are working Trojans to change that narrative. You can watch Yuliya and Chris' exchange in a two minute teaser here: https://youtu.be/Mpthp7OEwCQ
This is going to a big chunk of take-away and we hope you can join us!
The show will be live streamed on the Gutterblood Talk Show's Instagram page, captured on video, and posted to the Gutterblood Talk Show play list on YouTube.
