Shadow Kitchen is excited to welcome opera director and producer George R. Miller to present Orphic Fixations: Perspectives in Cinematic Opera, a screening and discussion of moving image and staged work on September 19, 2024 at Coaxial Arts, where we will present a selection of George’s films and concert documentation interspersed with excerpts from contemporaneous artists working within the cinematic-opera genre of filmmaking. Composer Gavin Gamboa joins this event in conversation with the director, untangling the ways in which a cinema that is affected by and informed through classical and contemporary music sets the conditions for a uniquely mysterious and totalizing form of artistic endeavor.
