Connie Zheng is a Chinese-born artist, writer and experimental filmmaker based out of xučyun (also known as Berkeley, California). She works with maps, seeds, food, environmental histories, speculative fiction, field recordings and hand-drawn animation. Her projects frequently include participatory scenarios and seek to diagram dynamic relationships between human and more-than-human worlds, as well as the interplay between memory, culture, and place. Projects such as maps of plant migrations and Asian farmworker history in California, speculative seed exchanges, seed-making kits, mooncake design workshops and improvisational pseudo-documentaries are strategies for navigating diasporic memory, the continued weight of history, and possibilities for collective imagining amidst ongoing and future ecological transformations.

Nicole Starosielski, Professor of Film and Media at the University of California-Berkeley, conducts research on global internet and media distribution, communications infrastructures ranging from data centers to undersea cables, and media’s environmental and elemental dimensions. Starosielski is author or co-editor of The Undersea Network (2015), Media Hot and Cold (2021), Signal Traffic: Critical Studies of Media Infrastructure (2015), Sustainable Media: Critical Approaches to Media and Environment (2016), Assembly Codes: The Logistics of Media (2021).

Kelley O’Leary is a interdisciplinary artist based in El Cerrito, CA. Working across mixed media installations, video, drawing and sculpture, she explores the relationships between digital media, infrastructure and earth's material bodies. Kelley is a member of Imaginaries of the Future Collective, a self-organizing nomadic collective of artists and thinkers. She is co-curator of the Bay Area-based new media art salon, Living Room Light Exchange.

***In the spirit of community safety and accessibility, we are strongly encouraging attendees to wear a mask indoors.

Looking forward to being in exchange with you,

Brian and Kelley
