Ziggy Stardust: An Outdoor Burlesque Bowiemas

Brooklyn, New York
$22.46 (includes all fees)

Free for members. Become one at cityreliquary.org/join.

Welcome to Bowiemas. This is not a virtual event.

Icon. Rebel. Alien. The Last Chance Dancers invite you to celebrate the birth and legacy of David Bowie. This Bowiemas party will feature THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS played in full on vinyl, with the Last Chance Dancers pouncing on your heart strings and blowing your minds. No breaks. No mercy. Just raw emotion and bare flesh.

Last time we did this a leaf fell onto the record and hit the needle, but we kept dancing through the scratches. Anything could happen.

The Last Chance Dancers are: Queensiñera, Esmé D’Avril, Kita St. Cyr, Maggie McMuffin, and Venatrix. And special guest: Audrey Love!

And, hot chocolate ladled from a crock pot by minor celebrity chef and Reliquary Monthly Member #002 Sam Reiff-Pasarew.

First show is at 7pm, second show at 8:30pm. The show is outdoors with no heat so bring your finest furs, blankets, and capes to keep warm! Not for the faint of heart. Again: This is an outdoor show in December. Come prepared. You're welcome to move around to warm up throughout the show.

Warning: This is a real burlesque show, with professional burlesque dancers. Anyone is welcome, but please note there will be sexually explicit performance, nudity, and sexually explicit language.

SAFETY
We are capping total volunteers, performers, and tickets sold to 24 people in the backyard at once. Up to 5 at a time will be permitted indoors for restrooms, or to browse the museum collections. Otherwise everyone will be outdoors.

Facemasks must be worn when you are not seated outdoors, and at all times indoors.

Seats will be arranged in distanced "pods" based on the number of tickets purchased in each order. If you would like to sit with someone who purchased tickets separately for the same show, please email jacob@cityreliquary.org in advance with the names for tickets you would like to be seated together.

Hand sanitizer will be available for all.

ACCESSIBILITY
The main entrance and indoor museum are entirely flat, but there are 4 steps up and 4 steps down to the backyard. The backyard is uneven with some platforms, but a paved area near the entrance is available with a view of the stage. Email jacob@cityreliquary.org with any questions or needs, and we'll happy to figure out if and how we can accommodate.

WHAT IS THE CITY RELIQUARY?
Reliquaries typically house the ostensible bones of dead saints. We house the bones of New York City. From seltzer bottles to schist cores, roller skates from racially integrated rinks, and a burnt out lightbulb from the Statue of Liberty's torch. Pieces of this city once common that are now relics.

Since our founding in an apartment window in 2002 The City Reliquary has been collecting, preserving, and sharing pieces of New York City, for New Yorkers. Now more than ever the stories of every New Yorker need to be told.

You can first become a member for $10/month at cityreliquary.org/join then return to this page to find the price magically vanished. Or, buy a ticket and apply it directly toward a few months of membership to try it out.

WHY MEMBERSHIP?
Sustaining monthly memberships help us predict our finances, and survive through and beyond this pandemic. We can survive better on reliable "subscriptions" than the whims of admission & ticket sales.

COVID-19 has shifted The City Reliquary headfirst toward a member-supported financial model, because sustaining monthly (or annual) memberships are much more reliable and dependable than ticket sales and museum admissions.

In exchange for your ongoing support as a member, you'll receive free admission to the museum for you and your household anytime, free tickets to events, and—we hope—tiny New York City historical institution to call your own.

Join at cityreliquary.org/join.

WHAT ELSE?
Please come prepared to tip the performers, via cash or Venmo.

Drinks can be purchased with cash or Venmo.
